We had nothing planned today. We talked about maybe doing a short ride to either end of the lake, or maybe a hike. I wanted to do neither and the guys came to similar conclusions.
This morning while I was wrapping up the Day 6 blog, the right lens of my 3 week old reading glasses decided it wanted to take hike of it's own and popped out of the frame, The frame had pulled apart. I borrowed a set of jewelers screwdrivers from Tom (He has just about anything you will need) only to discover that the lens was cut too large and the screw had stripped on end. There was no way to get them back together. Inquires at the front desk resulted in a funny stare followed by the answer "the closet drug store in your direction is Whitehorse". Ok, that's only 400 miles from here. I searched for a solution, then asked the maintenance man for either copper wire or fishing line. He came through with fishing line, and I literally tied my glassed back together. If I am careful, they will get me home.
Even though we did absolutely nothing today, I did take a float plane sight seeing tour with Joe.
Brad, Joe, the plane, and Chris, our most excellent pilot that couldn't see over the top of the dashboard.
I have never been a small plane before and was excited at the prospect that I would get to control some of the levers and knobs.
Just tell me which knobs and buttons I get to work.
Watch a short video
Chris told me he has been flying for about 10 years and he really enjoys it. He took us back into the mountains looking for wildlife, but we did not see any today. During the flight a red light, the ONLY red indicator, pops on right in front of me.
What? Low voltage? Didn't you fill up with voltage before you took off????
When I snapped the picture of the light, Chris spoke up: "It's not a problem, it doesn't mean there is a problem, everything is OK". I laughed, being low on voltage is a common occurance for EE's, so I figured it didn't mean much, however, I couldn't understand why Chris was struggling to put his parachute on.
After flying around the mountains, he brought us back to lake and flew over the lodge where we were staying.
Hey Mom, I can see our house from here.
Then he came in for a landing. I must say, I have never felt a smoother landing than landing on water. The major airlines could learn a thing or two from Chris.
Thats about it for today as it was quiet and I am not feeling well. I will leave you with an obliguitory odd picture and a new TEE SHIRT CONTEST.
You see the strangest things on a trip like this. This one takes the cake
Is this what happens to your pick up if you stop way too fast?
ANNOUNCING THE SECOND CHANCE TEE SHIRT CONTEST
OK, the last one was hard, but there were some good guesses.
Here is today's installment: On day 3 posting there is an Histerical Marker. Expand it and there is something mentioned that just happens to coincidently mesh up with something in an earlier post. Be the first to post the connection to the facebook page, and you will will a tee-shirt of my choosing.
Good Luck.
Tomorrow will be an easy day of 35 miles down hill and we will be camped at Liard natural hot springs. I will hopefully be able to soak this sinus infection away.
having a blast following you, because I was on Tom's Land and Sea trip in Thailand, I am friends on FB where your blog connection was listed. Tell Tom 'hi'...I am packing my Friday, could use his and Dang's help.
